The Hurricanes Under 14 Borys Rugby Festival gives young players the opportunity to experience a secondary school rugby festival in a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment. Bringing together teams from across the country, the festival is held during secondary schools winter tournament week and focuses on participation, connection, and enjoyment.
Delivered in partnership with Wellington Rugby on behalf of the Hurricanes Youth Rugby Council, the festival reflects a shared commitment to creating positive early experiences in the game. All matches are played at Wakefield Park’s all-weather artificial surface, providing a consistent, high-quality venue in the heart of Wellington City.
Aim
The focus of the festival is not high performance, but participation and enjoyment. There are no points tables and no finals . The emphasis is on providing a positive experience for all players. Think of it as a school camp that happens to include rugby.
The festival also aims to create opportunities for students who may not have played during the season to take part alongside their peers. In 2023, 25 players involved had not played rugby for their school during the year, including 12 who were new to the game.
Entries
Entries for 2026 will open on Monday 30 October
Entry forms are required to be completed and returned with payment or request for invoice. It is important to note that the event will be limited to 12 teams and entries will be accepted on a first paid basis. We may accept late entries, please email to confirm.

Dates
The 2026 Hurricanes U14 Boys Rugby Festival will run from Monday 31 August to Wednesday 2 September, during secondary school winter tournament week.
Eligibility
The festival is sanctioned by School Sport New Zealand and NZ Rugby. Please check School Sport NZ eligibility regulations if you are unsure of their criteria.
