Congratulations to Hannah Smith (Naenae College) and Brendan Keogh (St Bernard's College) for winning the 2025 Pelorus Trust Service to School Sport award.
Hannah Smith
Hannah plays a multitude of sport for Naenae College including Netball, Touch, Basketball, Ripper Rugby & Ki O Rahi. Hannah umpires and coaches both Junior Netball and Junior Touch and helps manage different teams as well. She leads and facilitates the junior netball programme and helps prepare them for the season.
This year she took on another project by running a free netball umpiring program for first time students who want to learn how to umpire. Hannah also helped facilitate the basketball program in the junior space.
She is also known to pick up a whistle, whether it be on a Basketball court where she also scorebenches, a Netball court or a Touch field. Hannah has a relentless attitude to never give up and to help grow the next generation. She is an incredible asset to Naenae College
Brendan Keogh
Brendan, a Year 12 student, has demonstrated exceptional dedication and leadership in his volunteer role within the St Bernard's College Water Polo programme across all four terms this year. Beyond his role as a player, Brendan has been instrumental in the organisation and development of our Intermediate and Junior Water Polo teams.
Throughout the year, Brendan has taken on the responsibility of booking pool space for training sessions, ensuring the Intermediates had access in Terms 2 and 3, and the Juniors in Terms 3 and 4. His commitment has often seen him coaching two teams simultaneously on Sunday evenings, as well as supporting and coaching weekly games, often for hours at a time.
Brendan works closely with the Sports Department to manage team logistics, ensuring all players are accounted for and supported. He is the driving force behind the success and sustainability of the Junior and Intermediate programmes, dedicating countless hours to the sport and the students involved.
